Our Observations
- What we observed:
- We recommend having internet access and downloading “Google Maps” to get around Japan. This will help you figure out what rail line to take for your trips. You can also ask a station employee to assist you.
- Also download “Google Translate” to understand signages and menus.
- We made reservations for boat seats (no smoking) that had floor seating and you can fish directly from your table.
- Once you get seated, they give you the option to fish in 1) the smaller tank pools located towards the front of the boat. You catch the fish by snagging them without bait. Quickly swooping your rods to hook their mouth or body or 2) the open waters located on both sides of the boat. You will need to rent fishing poles and are given free bait to catch the fish. We did both and thought option 2 was a better experience for the kids.
- You get the option of getting your fish served as sashimi, grilled, boiled, deep-fried, or sushi. One fish can be prepared in two different ways.
- We got one fish deep-fried and the other fish boiled in a soy sauce mixture. Both were delicious but the deep-fried fish was our girls’ favorite.
- We packed an extra set of clothes just in case the kids got wet.
- Where we stayed:
- Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station (1 Chome-2-70 Miyahara, Yodogawa Ward, Osaka, 532-0003, Japan) – This is where we stayed.
- Remm-Shin-Osaka (1 Chome-1-1 Miyahara, Yodogawa Ward, Osaka, 532-0003, Japan) – Cheaper option at the Skin-Osaka Station

What We Said In Our Zauo Fishing Restaurant Video
Having made reservations prior to arriving, we got seated promptly on a raised platform built in the shape of a boat that was surrounded by pools full of red snapper. Based on all the laughing and cheers, you quickly realize the restaurant has a fun atmosphere.
After a short explanation, we were handed fishing poles and bait. If you walk around to the outside of the far end of the main pools, you can also choose between a bunch of other fish ranging from sardines to halibut. After catching our first fish there, the staff proclaims your catch to the entire restaurant as they beat on a large drum. We opted to have the fish deep-fried, and minutes later, it was back on our table, ready to eat.

Fun Meal
The fish was delicious, and I’m not even a fish person. As we took that down, we laughed and had drinks while the girls tried to catch another one. After a few near catches, we switched pools, and a fish nabbed the hook before I was even ready. It’s so much fun.
Again the staff cheered, and the equally good sprinted customers around us celebrated as well. While we saw a good amount of locals having fun, the restaurant caters well to tourists and had plenty of international customers when we visited. And with English on the menus, we didn’t have any issues ordering or communicating.
